Little Hearts United’s mission is to help children who have tragically lost loved ones to violence. In doing so, we hope to show these children that they are not alone and never forgotten. Little Hearts United provides individual counseling, mentoring and group activities to provide a safe nurturing environment for them to process their grief and develop healthy coping skills.
Many children throughout Baltimore City and the state of Maryland are forced to deal with traumatic life experiences without proper mental health resources or the guidance of an adult. Whether they have lost mom, dad, brother or sister, these children are hurting and desperately need love and support. Our program provides individual therapy that will allow the children to process their grief in a healthy manner while also connecting them with mentors that will provide positive relationships to ensure they remain on the right path. Additionally, Little Hearts United will connect the children with resources throughout Baltimore City and the state of Maryland that provide relief for the children and their families.
Little Hearts United's mission is inspired by 8-year-old Baltimore City resident, Jarrod, who lost a father and two brothers to gun violence. While Jarrod misses his father and brothers dearly, he hopes to one day become a Firefighter and rescue those in danger. The Little Hearts United team hopes to reach out to every child that has lost a family member or friend and let them know that they are not alone and never forgotten.
While working for The John's Hopkins Hospital operating room, Ms. Millie Brown encountered many victims of violence and their grieving families. In 2007, Ms. Brown founded Tears of a Mother's Cry after deciding to dedicate her life to the city of Baltimore and the families of victims that have been taken by violence. For the past 13 years, Ms. Millie has provided support and guidance to grieving families, bringing hope to many Baltimoreans that are suffering from their loss.
